Empathy and understanding are at the center of my work, while representing the joy of discovery and uplifting beauty. Folktales, history, and other cultural pieces fall into place within the portraits I create using ink and gauche. I want to elevate the idea that women be seen in deeper contexts regarding their connection to humankind and their specific cultural inheritances. Hair styles are unique forms of cultural inheritance that speak to who someone is, who they were, and who they may become. The roots are planted in fertile soil; they go back generations and will go forward for many more.
